City of Keizer Shares Information on Police Service Fee

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

City of Keizer Shares Information on Police Services Fee

Keizer, Oregon — The City of Keizer has published a new online information page to help residents
learn more about the Police Services Fees.

Originally implemented in November 2017, the Police Services Fee provides dedicated funding to
support police services that safeguard, facilitate, and encourage the health, safety, and welfare of the
residents and enterprises of the City of Keizer. The Fee is restricted by City Code and can only be used to provide resources to the Police Department for employee costs such as wages, insurance, retirement and taxes, in addition to uniforms, service equipment, and vehicles.

Since its adoption, the fee has increased from $4.00 to $6.90 per month, and the cost of providing police
services has continued to rise creating a gap in funding. To help bridge that gap, the City has relied on
one-time funding sources from the American Rescue Act (ARPA) and savings. As those options become
more limited, the City is now evaluating how to sustainably fund police services moving forward.

The City Council will hold a discussion on the Police Services Fee during its meeting on Monday, May 4
at 6:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers. Policy direction is needed to address the issue for the coming
fiscal year.

Community members are encouraged to review the new information page on the City’s website ahead of
the meeting to better understand the background and considerations involved.
If you are part of a community group or organization that would like to learn more, City staff are
available to provide additional information and presentations upon request.
