The Guys presented by Keizer Homegrown Theatre
Join us for the play The Guys by Anne Nelson. Our question, Where were you on 9/11? For those of us old enough to remember, it is indelibly burned into our memories. For the characters of our latest production, they were at ground zero. The Guys deals with the aftermath of 9/11 and the lives of the firefighters the terrorist attack touched. Nick, a NYFD captain is struggling to write the eulogies for the memorials of his men lost in the collapse of the Twin Towers and is introduced to Joan, a NY editor who comes to his aid. They spend an afternoon together and through the stories Nick shares of the fallen men, Joan helps him craft eulogies that capture the character of his men and the spirit of the city. The play is based on a true story; playwright Anne Nelson helped a NYFD captain by ghostwriting eulogies for his men and turning their heart wrenching time into an emotional play that captures the feelings of a city and a nation. The men lost were the guys we all know, the Little League Coaches, the neighbors, the fathers, the brothers, the sons, the husbands. They were humans that by their nature became heros.
