Keizer Transit Center Grand Opening
As the completion of the Keizer Transit Center nears, Salem-Keizer Transit invites the community to help celebrate its Grand Opening. A public open house will be held from 4pm - 7pm on Monday, July 1. Bus service to the transit center will start June 24 and will be available throughout the event for those wishing to take Cherriots to or from the event.
The facility was designed as the first step to increasing Salem-Keizer Transit's service excellence in the northern areas of the service region. Built to include bus bays, passenger waiting areas, transit information, 55 park and ride spaces, carpool drop-off and pickup areas, and bicycle storage, the new transit center will act as a transit hub for routes serving Keizer and north Salem.
The transit center incorporates both seen and unseen sustainable design features. Some of these include a green roof, solar panels, electric vehicle charging stations, energy efficient heating and cooling, and rain gardens. "The sustainable features of the Keizer Transit Center aligns with our strategic initiative of promoting environmental sustainability" said Salem-Keizer Transit General Manager Allan Pollock.
The facility was designed by Pivot Architecture. P & C Construction was the lead contractor for construction. Reno artist David Boyer created a kinetic sculpture installation for the facility entitled "In Motion".
Funding for the transit center came from a combination of federal and state funds. Total project cost was $8.1 million. While benefits to local community members will be great, no local funding was needed to complete this project.
Details and photos will be available on the Salem-Keizer Transit website in the coming weeks. Be sure you don't miss the opportunity to take part in this special event.
