Date: April 28, 2018
Time: 8:00 AM - 10:00 AM PDT
Carry the Load is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing active, meaningful ways to honor and celebrate the sacrifices made by our nation's heroes - military, law enforcement, firefighters, and first responders. See more on their website, http://carrytheload.org. Come out and join us for the 3rd year in a row on Saturday, April 28th, 2018 to honor our nation's heroes by raising awareness of those who have sacrificed for us as we prepare for Memorial Day at the end of May. More than just a "day off," Memorial Day is a day of remembrance. We will be meeting at Salem Fire Station # 10 on State Street at 8:00am. Parking will be available at the Chase Bank location on the corner of Hawthorne & State Street. We will join our friends from Carry the Load on their portion of the West Coast leg of their journey. We will be leaving from the fire station to the Oak Hills Safeway in Edgewater Street in West Salem, arriving around 10:00am. We will take a small break and opportunity to stop at the WWII Memorial in remembrance of our fallen heroes. Who: our nation's heroes When: Saturday, April 28th, 2018 at 8:00am Where: Salem Fire Station # 10 - 3611 State Street Salem, OR 97301 Why: to honor and celebrate the sacrifices of our nation's heroes Additional info: From Seattle to Dallas: 4,300 Miles The West Coast route of Carry The Load’s National Relay begins high in the Pacific Northwest at Victor Steinbrueck Park in Seattle’s historic Pike Place Market neighborhood. Much like the East Coast route, it’s hard to overstate the beauty of the West Coast journey passing through the gorgeous architecture within the University of Oregon; the monumental mountains of Burney, CA; the vines of Napa; the Golden Gate Bridge; the flash of Hollywood; the lights of Vegas; the painted desert of Arizona; and the white sands of New Mexico before its final 13-day stretch through West and South Texas.
