The Salem City Club invites you to join us on Friday, March 9, 2018, at the Willamette Heritage Center for "The Life and Times of the Kalapuya: First Peoples of the Willamette Valley." The Santiam Band of the Kalapuya populated the Willamette Valley prior to the arrival of settlers in the early 1800’s. Removed to the Grand Ronde Indian Reservation in 1856, these native residents of the Salem area have endured immense hardship yet have persisted. The rich history and culture of the Kalapuya continue to impact the cultural, political and economic life of all residents in the region today. Please join us for a fascinating presentation by David Harrelson, Cultural Resources Department Manager for the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde for a talk about the history of the Kalapuya of Salem and their continued legacy. Lunch reservations are due by noon Wednesday, March 7, 2018. For more information on this program, please go to www.salemcityclub.com
