CATHOLIC COMMUNITY SERVICES' ST. JOSEPH THE WORKER EVENT WILL LIVESTREAM ON MAY 1
SALEM, Oregon- April 21, 2022- Salem area citizens concerned about their unsheltered neighbors can make a difference right from their own homes. On May 1 at 5:30 pm, Catholic Community Services (CCS) is hosting a live-stream St. Joseph the Worker Fundraising Event. The online program is designed to both raise awareness and funds for their shelter and food pantry. CCS hopes to raise $70,000 from the online program. CEO Josh Graves will speak, and viewers can hear real-life testimonials. The event is named after Saint Joseph, a tireless worker and guardian of those entrusted to his care. He is a symbol of guarding, protecting, and enlightening families. The shelter and its sister program, Mission Benedict, support families experiencing homelessness, housing instability, food insecurity, addiction, and involvement with the foster care system. Through the St. Joseph Transitional Living Community, as well as food, clothing, and emergency assistance provided by Mission Benedict, these programs assist individuals and families with everything from basic needs to restoring their families and rebuilding their lives. Oregon has an estimated 14,655 experiencing homelessness. That includes 825 family households, according to the US Interagency Council on Homelessness. Homelessness is linked to poor physical and mental health in adults and is shown to harm children’s education, health, development, and more. CCS’s mission is to champion the positive development of children and adults, strengthen families, and build community. With the funds from this event, more families will be given the shelter and support they need. This event is free, and registration is not required.
