SUMMARY:Stitches in Bloom Quilt Show at The Oregon Garden
DESCRIPTION:The Oregon Garden?s 80-acre botanical sanctuary will be full of color as hundreds of vibrant quilts from throughout the Northwest unfurl for the 6th annual Stitches in Bloom Quilt Show\, Jan. 25 - 26\, 2013\, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will feature quilting demonstrations and lectures\, a variety of popular quilt-related vendors\, and a tearoom with lunch fare and specialty concessions. The event will highlight guest artist Charlotte Warr Andersen\, creator of one-of-a-kind pictorial quilts\, who specializes in fabric portraits that feature meticulous hand appliqu  involving hours of work. Andersen is renowned for her original creations and teaches her techniques internationally. She will be giving daily lectures throughout the show. The Stitches in Bloom Quilt Show is included with regular Garden admission: $11 adults\, $9 seniors 60 and older\, $8 students 12-17\, $5 children 5-11\, and free for children 4 & under. Or volunteer during the event and receive free admission. Members of the public are also invited to submit quilts for display in the show\, with an entry fee of $10 per quilt. Prizes will be awarded for Viewer?s Choice in appliqu \, piecework\, art design and traditional quilts. Another popular part of the festivities is the ?Quilt Challenge\,? where participants submit a quilt made from a designated challenge fabric. This year?s fabric is called ?Yellow Iris & Peony? by Kaffe Fassett Collective and is available for purchase at Greenbaum's Quilted Forest in Salem. For quilters seeking in-depth instruction\, The Oregon Garden is offering a three-day pictorial appliqu  workshop with featured artist Andersen from January 22 through 24. The price of $250 includes the workshop and lunch all three days. The Oregon Garden Resort offers 103 rooms overlooking The Oregon Garden and the sweeping Willamette Valley\, and is presenting a variety of lodging packages throughout the week for both Quilt Show and workshop attendees.
