KeizerFEST 2020 POSTPONED amid COVID-19 Pandemic

In just a few short weeks KeizerFEST 2020 would have energized Keizer with music, a parade and the ever-popular festival tent. The event draws more than 40,000 spectators and participants from across the Willamette Valley to enjoy the more than 15 events and activities.

KeizerFEST, formerly, Keizer’s Iris Festival has been a local tradition for more than 40 years, embracing the community’s locally grown flower, the Iris, and the community’s theme: Pride, Spirit and Volunteerism. However, after much uncertainty of how to fund the festival due to major economic impacts seen by much of the festivals annual sponsors and the unknowns constantly presented by state leadership as to when the “stay home” and “social distancing” Executive Orders will be released, the Keizer Chamber of Commerce’s Board of Directors voted Wednesday, April 8th to postpone the annual May event to later in the year; August 13th – 16th, 2020.

Planning has just begun to structure the festival during a new season that will likely present some new challenges as well as new opportunities. The festival board led by Co-Chairs Dave Walery and Scott White along with Chamber leadership are up for the task.  We predict a different look and sound to the annual parade, knowing area schools will not be in session we will have to be creative with recruiting marching bands and float entries.  Parades are family focused, and sideline observers want to see children smiling and engaging crowds and they want to be delighted by the sounds of musical instruments; we have our work cut out for us.  But with the effort and passion of our community volunteers we are certain we can put on an event we all will enjoy and be proud of.

A community partnership between the Keizer Art Association and the Keizer Chamber facilitates an annual Celebration of Flowers art competition.  Area artists are given a flower and asked to create a piece of art to enter into a May competition.  Each year an Iris is chosen by the former years committee. The 2020 Iris name is Stairway to Heaven and the festival theme is Dancin’ In the Streets. The current Celebration of Flowers competition will continue in May as well as the annual Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast.  Although we will all be eating breakfast from the comfort of our socially distanced homes, the Keizer Chamber is collaborating with area churches and community volunteers to bring this annual event to the community through a live stream.  Details on how this process will play out are still underway, however, please mark your calendars for Thursday morning, May 7th and plan to virtually attend this annual event.
