SALEM, OR - Garten Services and Marion County Environmental Services invite residents to a Free Shred and Electronics Recycling Event on Saturday, October 20 at the Garten North Salem Recycling Center from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Residents can bring up to two banker boxes of confidential documents from home to have shredded for free. Residents can also bring electronics and previously shredded paper to recycle.
"People want to make sure their documents are confidentially shredded and that paper is recycled. At Garten, we can do both while also providing jobs for people with disabilities. Our GEAR store let's people get high quality computers, parts and peripherals at really low prices, while keeping electronics out of the trash," explains Gaelen McAllister, Garten Resource Development Manager.
The GEARS store sells refurbished electronics and will be open to the public that Saturday.
Shredded paper is not accepted in curbside mixed recycling roll carts; however it is accepted and recycled at the Garten North Salem Recycling Center, which is located at 3334 Industrial Way NE. "This is the perfect opportunity for residents to discover where to take their shredded paper, electronics, and many other hard to recycle items," says Jessica Ramey a Waste Reduction Coordinator for Marion County Environmental Services.
